Oh the joy. Last night, I got out of my almost-nightly bath and I noticed the toilet water had drained really low in the bowl. Knowing it wasn't clogged (that I could tell) I just flushed it thinking nothing of it. Next thing I knew the water kept rising and rising. I was thinking, in my non-mr-fix-it way, "maybe it'll stop now? whoa that's getting close. it won't overflow. maybe it will stop now? now?" and then it just spilled over the edge of the toilet onto my feet. Toilet water on my feet. I freaked. My shrieks of disgust mixed with terror for fears of "TURN THE WATER OFF! TURN THE WATER OFF!!" while on his way. He looked at me with disappointment in his eyes then turned off the water, soaking the entire right side of his body in the act. We both laughed uncontrollably as we thrust towels upon the inch or so of water that filled our bathroom floor. I am still not sure whether he was laughing at the situation or laughing at the fact that he'd just washed all those towels the day prior or laughing at me. I'm guessing, it was probably all directed at me. I'm not handy around the house in any sense. I couldn't believe this happened. He couldn't believe I didn't know how to shut off the water. A snippet of our conversation, between the laughter:
Kevin: "What would you have done if I hadn't been here?"
Katie: "Well, I was searching for a cup or something to start transferring the water into the sink.."
Kevin: "Why wouldn't you just turn the water off!?!"
Katie: "How am I supposed to know how to do that? Remember - I am a girl. And I've never had to unclog a toilet in my life."
Kevin: "So you would have to just let all the water run everywhere and probably called your dad, right?"
Katie: "Probably. And I would just wish it all away."
Kevin: "Oh, boog." ("boog" is our pet name for each other and, yes, it's short for booger)
So, moral of the story. Some would think it was to make sure you're prepared in all situations to know how to handle them, like knowing how to unclog a toilet or turn off the water. My moral is always make sure you have a husband to do all the gross things for you. It sure makes things a lot easier.
It was definitely a good laugh and a good memory. He's my hero.

flowers from my love
so...on the day i found out about my promotion, a lady at my work got flowers from her husband for their anniversary. yellow roses. my favorite kind of rose! they were big, beautiful and i was jealous. i had a mini pity party for myself. i'm not going to lie. after all, to me, it seemed (at the time) that it had been soooo long since i'd gotten flowers.
then, there he was walking through the door that evening...after a long day at work, with a beautiful bouquet of flowers for me. that's right...kevin brought me flowers to celebrate my promotion! he's so sweet. i absolutely love them! and he loves it because it gives him bonus points :)
it's funny how such a little gesture can make me feel so appreciated and loved.

Is it 5 o'clock yet?
I'm on my break at work and my mind keeps drifting off to my endless list of things to do over the weekend. I have a good mix of big projects (seating chart design, DJ song list) vs. the small things (finding a prop box, gathering enough vases, etc) so it'll be nice to check some of the quicker projects off the list fairly soon. This weekend will be filled with cleaning, painting, designing, printing, planning, packing, shopping, gluing, cutting, framing, decision-making, etc. Everything BUT relaxing! I am sure Kevin and I will make some time to catch some rays by our apartment pool. Need to get a tan for the big day, right?
Last night Kevin and I spent some time looking at our baby pictures. We are going to display some of our favorites at the wedding so we were choosing the best ones. I am going to be so excited to have my own babies on day, considering Kevin was such a cute kid! Probably one of the cutest I've ever seen. His mom took the best photos of him--can't wait to show them off at the wedding :) My photos are pretty darn cute too, if I do say so myself!

Honeymooners
A recent trip to the sunglass hut made me think of our honeymoon! Karen (Kevin's mother) got me a giftcard to buy some cute sunglasses for our trip to Maui. Isn't that a creative gift for a Bridal Shower? I found some great Versace shades that 1. are to DIE for and 2. were on SALE :) Anyway, the new sunglasses made me think that we need to start thinking of what to pack. It takes me forever to pack so I need to start making a list right now! It should be interesting considering we don't really have any luggage. We didn't really need any in college :) The one bag we did have broke, so I guess we are going to search for some from Ross or just borrow from my parents. Anyone know where to get reasonably priced luggage? We looked for some at Target and they were nice. Anywhere else? Besides that, it's going to be a challenge for us to figure out what kind of clothes to take. I am a total over-packer so I am going to need to narrow it down to the essentials. For Kevin it's easy--just throw in a couple t-shirts and shorts, he's good to go! My most favorite thing to pack is going to be my large, white, wide-brimmed floppy hat. Kevin got it for me from Target. I've always wanted one but never had any place to wear it. It will be the perfect shield from the sun when we're on the beach. It's sort-of a beachy version of a chic Kentucky derby hat. Kevin is debating buying a hawaiian shirt. He says it's required to wear at least one tacky shirt to a luau. We'll see about that one! :) Overall, the essentials will be sunscreen, aloe vera, flip flops, sunglasses (or sungoggles as Kevin calls them), cheap snorkel gear and a couple underwater cameras. Kevin also wants to find some kind of ipod dock or speaker system to play music in our hotel room and/or on the beach. Anyone have any suggestions? Can't wait for those tropical drinks :)
